Abstract

The authors of the article deal with the question of how to contribute to the development of arithmetic skills of pupils. The paper presents the problem of harmonic numbers, which was first formulated and solved in the 14th century AD.

The authors show how this problem can be incorporated into mathematics teaching at the second and third grades of schools, suggesting interdisciplinary contexts linking mathematics, history, physics and musical science. At the same time, they show how the history of the problem continued to evolve, after the still open, problems of number theory.
