Reproductive ageing of the Czech Population

Publication at Faculty of Science |

Abstract

From the demographic perspective childbearing postponement results in lower probability to fulfil reproductive plans, thus lower probability of reaching two children per woman despite the two-child family is the predominant reproductive norm in the Czech society. While in 1990 the mean age of mother at first childbearing was 22.5 years, by 2019 it has increased to 28.6 years.

This development copies the trends in Western Europe, however, by a double speed. According to recuperation index, more than 80 per cent of delayed first children have been born.

However, recuperation of delayed second births has been only 60% so far.
