Abstract
Relics of the saints in ancient Rome attracted attention of the faithful as well as Roman emperors as legislators who felt the need to regulate issues of dealing with such relics, burial near the bodies of saints and some aspects of law of inheritance. They were certainly interested in maintaining public order, however, they were possibly influenced by their own faith and personal piety.
There is not any apparent system of legal norms regarding relics of the saints, which implies that the emperors responded separately to individual problems of the society. It means that legal norms presented in the article report on the life of Roman society in the period immediately after the official approval of Christian faith and indicates approach of Roman citizens to the saints and their relics.
