Abstract
In times of rapid and radical social changes, the society longs for some fixed points in the from of permanent values and binding rules. People look with hope to the judgments of judicial authorities whose task is to find the law in complex situations of conflict.
Through its interpretation of fundamental human rights and freedoms, the European Court of Human Rights and the Court of Justice of the European Union have become the driving force behind far-reaching social changes. The highest European courts are over the last few years increasingly concerned with the issue of same-sex cohabitation.
