The paper deals with the assumptions and origins of urban historiography in the Czech lands in the Middle Ages in the context of the development of the urban historiography of the Latin Europe. The author follows individual types of historical writings and narratives: records of events in cities in official city books, annals written by city officials, and city event sessions.
Particular attention is paid to the annals that were probably written in the Old Town of Prague between 1436 and 1448 and to the probably New Town annals from the last quarter of the 15th and the first decades of the 16th century. Both of them are preserved as part of the Old Czech Annals.
The burghers historiography of the late Middle Ages is also mentioned.
