The contribution describes the role of the school manager in the contemporary school system. It centres specifically on the timeless element of "leading through service" and on its individual principles.
The goal of the contribution is to bring the practice of "leading through service" forward as an inspirational leadership model for the contemporary school system and consequently to help spark a wide-range discussion on possible uses of "leading through service" in the field of school management. The contribution explains that "leading through service" does not make the leader subordinate to his/her followers; on the contrary, it postulates that only the personality of "a humble leader", i.e. a leader focused on his/her followers and their needs, makes "a noble leader", a leader who has the will to do the right thing for his/her followers.
The contribution shows that "leading through service" is applicable in the school system not only in religious schools but also in other types of schools. Surprisingly, even certain foreign companies have been operating with the vision of leadership as a service since they employ young people who resent the traditional management approach based on commands and control.
