In Baltic languages exist more expressions for a substance meaning immaterial essence of a human being than we know from, i.e., Slavic languages. Expressions represented by Lithuanian 'siela, dvasia, vėlė, dūšia', Latvian 'gars, dvēsele, velis', have a lot in common, nevertheless, at the same time we might find some distinguishing features among them.
Based also on some particular analysed diachronical and comparative data, this paper contributed on the general description of such denotations in Lithuanian language.
