The student protest in Mexico City was one of the many similar events that happened in 1968 across the world. For the U.S. government, however, it was one closely observed as it happened in its "backyard".

The presented paper analyzes the recently declassified documents of various American agencies in order to find out how well were the United States officials informed, how the evaluated the event, whom they saw behind it, and also how it affected their relations with Mexico in the years to come.
