Sports cardiology is a rapidly evolving field, which influences activities of cardiologists and sports physicians on a professional level. Rhythm disturbances, being an integral part of cardiology, require a highly sofisticated approach towards diagnostics and therapy.
In sports cardiology, both sports physician and cardiologist have to deal with 4 areas of interests/difficulties, that we could, a bit jokingly, include in a "sub-subspecialty" called sports arrythmology. Firstly, there are questions covering the topic of how sport, or physical activity in general, causes arrhythmias.
Secondly, there is an area of prevention/treatment of arrhythmias with physical activity. Thirdly, diagnostics and treatment of athletes, in whom arrhythmias manifest over time.
Systematic approach towards sudden cardiac death prevention in athletes is the last, fourth, area of sports arrhythmology interests.
