Abstract

Nowadays nanomaterials based on plasma polymer nanoparticles (PP NPs) are widely used in various fields, e.g., in biomedicine. Among various techniques applied for the fabrication of PP NPs, the use of gas aggregation cluster sources (GAS) is a novel, cost-effective and environmentally friendly approach.

This study is focused on the preparation of different types of PP NPs functionalized with specific chemical groups and their use for the fabrication of nanostructured surfaces. n-hexane and acrylic acid were used as precursors to obtain either non-functionalized hydrocarbon or carboxyl-functionalized NPs. The NPs were characterized by AFM, SEM and XPS.

Potential usage of such PP NPs for wettability control is presented.
