Abstrakt
Form and function are two facets through which we perceive any part of an organism. The former is the primary domain of morphological sciences (anatomy), while the latter is the subject of physiology (study of life).
These two disciplines are among the most fundamental 'basic sciences' encountered in medical or other life science curricula; however, it makes much more sense to consider them together rather than separately. Structure without known function could be potentially interesting, but of little practical relevance; the opposite (i.e. function without palpable structure) is also puzzling and makes the concept of 'structure-function relationship' less fruitful.
