The Explosive Potential of the Living Forms of Henri Focillon

Publication at Faculty of Arts |

Abstract

This study is concerned with the relation of Foscillon's account of the formal life to several conceptions of philosophy of process, namely to Bergson's theory of the intuition of duration, Whitehead's notion of form as a potential and Dewey's ideas on the dynamic of form and its relationship towards the universe. Next, the study discovers connection between Foscillon's conception of the moment and the notion of explosion of Jurij Lotman.
