An argot is a secret language used by various groups to prevent outsiders from understanding their conversations. Romani knowledge among non-Romani is very rare, so the Romani language, being incomprehensible to a person belonging to the majority population, is a source of material for argots.
This article focuses on the specific speech of semi-itinerant Czech funfair providers and traders, entertainer minorities etc. Part of the study is an analysis of authentic text using the example of a fairy-tale and two songs recorded during field work.
