Foreign nations in proverbs of Uralic minority peoples

Abstract

In phraseology of any language, it seems there are so called imagological proverbs, that is the proverbs describing a foreign, mostly neighbouring nation(s). There are plenty of recorded imagological proverbs in Sami dictionaries, however only from the non-Russian part of Sápmi.

Imagological proverbs can be scarcely found in dictionaries of other Uralic minority peoples. The possible reasons are probably extralingual: language/ nation prestige leading to specific editorial practice, fear etc.
