Psoriatic arthritis is a joint disease associated with psoriasis, which is ranked among the group of spondyloarthritidies, together with ankylosing spondylitis, reactive and enteropathic spondyloarthritidies. Psoriatic arthritis develops in up to 30 % of patients with psoriasis.
Clinical and X-ray manifestations of psoriatic arthritis have some features, which differentiate it from other arthritidies. Psoriatic arthritis was formerly considered a relatively benign condition, but it is now recognized that the disease can lead in significant part of patients to severe functional impairment with decreased quality of life.
In recent years there was a considerable progress in knowledge of etiopathogenesis, which enabled the development of new classes of drugs. At the same time the strategy of the therapy was refined with emphasis on treat-to-target principle.
