The chapter presents a brief overview of the development of the Czech theory of terminology, which has an important tradition in Czech linguistics and in the care of Czech language culture. I has began systematically to develop in connection with the activities of the Prague Linguistic Circle, founded in 1926.
In the development of Czech terminological theory in connection with the formation of terms and their sub-terminological systems, theoretical views on the nature, definition and characteristics of the terms have been elaborated, changed and fixed. In the international context and from a historical point of view, its generally prevailing and traditional functionally structural access to terms appears to be as the main contribution and the specificity of the Czech theory of terminology, despite all its internal diversity of opinions, and the variability; the chapter therefore briefly summarizes this approach.
