The article analyses verbal valency and the structure of utterances in the early production (12-36 months) of a Czech speaking monolingual child. Despite the limits of a case study, the results indicate that the development is complex: many valency types seem to develop simultaneously and in irregular speed; selected phenomena (selected pre-verbal and verbal components, selected construcions) seem to play more central role than others, and gestures and context have to be accounted for.
