Abstract
This engaging book on the subject of Christmas is an outstanding literary achievement. Drawing on historical evidence, it enables the reader to discover how the celebration of this holiday has changed over the past century, from the inter-war years of the First Czechoslovak Republic, through the period of Nazi occupation, the Stalinist 1950s, the "golden sixties", the subsequent era of "normalization" and the post-Velvet Revolution period of the 1990s and beyond.
