Town halls as places of memory and public spaces in central Bohemian towns in the late 16th and first half of the 17th centuries

Abstract

Working with the example of four central Bohemian towns, the authors describe the various functions of town halls and their transformation prior to and during the Thirty Years' War. Town halls are seen as important sites of municipal self-government, political and symbolic communication, and local collective memory, and as important public spaces.
