Social Themes of the New Testament

Publication

Abstract

The publication is a support material for the subject of the Social Themes of the New Testament at the Hussite Theological Faculty of the Charles University. It consists of three main chapters with numerous subdivisions: 1.

The Church - its origin, the message and the social dimension of early Christianity, 2. The biblical themes - the Exegesis of texts with a social context, 3.

The social and secular currents in theology. The publication deals with the content of basic theological terms in relation to social issues, describes the time of postmodernism and questions related to the questioning of God in this epoch of history.

It shows a way of working with biblical texts and offers an exegesis of selected texts related to social topics, Jesus Nazareth's relationship to neighbor and God. The last part focuses on four theological streams - Minjung theology, theology of liberation, the death of God theology and feminist theology in which theology is presented from the position of anthropology and the fundamental theme is the new form of ethics, the correction of interpersonal relations and social relations, the critique of a nonfunctional conceptual apparatus, reflections of different types of society that cause the collapse of interpersonal relationships, poverty, or marginalization.
