Abstract
This text deals with the issue of the victim's statement about the criminal offence's impacts, which is know abroad and in the Czech and Slovak enviroment as the so-called victim impact statement. Firstly, the terminological questions are analysed, then the author focuses on te very roots of this legal institute, which are generally being found in the United States of America.
