Abstract
The study analyzes the ideological and architectural principles on which the Bentham project of Panoptikon was based. It further compares this construction with the logic of Piranesi's Carceri series and demonstrates that the logic of these imaginary prisons is analogous to the logic of Bentham's project, whose nature was not architectural but virtual.
This study then proceeds to the examples of contemporary architecture that was inspired by Piranesi's Carceri and, along with their logic, took over the effects of Bentham's prison.
