Abstract
Josef Zeman was introduced as the humanist and educator who perhaps with the best way managed to combine old views on helping the disabled with new views on their educational opportunities. So the best tradition of Czech institutes of 19th century, when in that time the first educational methods had been discovered, which facilitated to people with some kind of disadvantaged the basic orientation in life, with the necessity to build a whole system of special schools according educational needs of pupils with different kinds of disadvantages in the newly arising democraticCzechoslovakia in 1918.
