38 Senile dementia: disease or our common fate?

Abstract

In the last 110 years senile dementia is usually explained as a consequence of Alzheime 's disease. However observation by laymen as well as psychologists provide knowledge that the disappearence of intelectual abilities affects in fact the population as a whole, only with different velocity and intensity.

For people labeled by Alzheimer's dementia this diagnosis means a certain exclusion from the society of the so called healthy people. New peaces of knowledge in imaging during the last 20 years demonstrate the processess in brain ageing are more numerable than those known to A.

Alzheimer a whole centenary ago: leukoaraiosis, microinfarctions, microbleedings, changes in isotropy and diffusivity.
