Abstract
The article discusses the Proto-Slavic words *mar6n7, *mariti, *mara and other derivatives from the root *mar-, whose etymological and word-formation relations are puzzling and are interpreted differently by various authors. Departing from the meaning of individual words, the article draws the most plausible picture of their etymological and word-formation relations.
