Josef Kalousek: A Half-Forgotten First Professor of Bohemian History at Prague University

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2017

Abstract

Josef Kalousek (1838 - 1915) was first a promising Old Czech journalist with close contact to the leaders of this political party František Palacký and his son in law F. L.

Rieger. Later he became a distinguished expert in the history of Bohemian State Law/Böhmisches Staatsrecht.

His conception of Bohemian social and economic history was strongly influenced by Palacký's romantic and early liberal view of the Czech history. His influence upon the Czech university students was, however, not so strong as he wanted because of his methodologically confused approach to the history studies.
