Abstract

The dictionary entry focuses on the life and work of German journalist and writer of the second half of 20th century - Erich Kästner. This author is known as a novel writer, poet and script-writer, cabaret satirist.

His work includes works for adults readers (novel Fabian, poetry Herz auf Taille ) and for children (Emil und die Detektive). He ist author of autobiographical novel Als ich der kleine Jung war.

In his childern's books is typical the emphasis on the social aspect of childhoods. Kästner is considered the founder of the children's detective genre.

He was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Award for his work for children (1960).
