The Czech Republic has a very strong constitutional court based on the German model. The court has the power to repeal not only unconstitutional laws, but also all decisions of other courts if they violate the fundamental rights.
In the general judgment of the plenary session of the Constitutional Court Pl. ÚS 27/09, the Constitutional Court even overturned the constitutional law on the shortening of the fifth term of the Chamber of Deputies. The Constitutional Court so agreed that it has the power to repeal the Constitutional Law if it constitutes an impermissible change of the essential requirements of a democratic constitutional state.
The Constitutional Court has high public confidence, higher than other constitutional bodies. This paper summarizes the most important judgments of the Czech Constitutional Court.
