The Reception of Darwin in the Czech biological discourse of the 19th and early 20th centuries

Abstract

The chapter deals with the reception of Darwinism and evolutionary doctrine in Czech science in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The focus of the essay lies in the discussion between Czech biologists at the beginning of the 20th century, when evolutionary science became an obvious part of biology.

The question of the mechanism of the evolutionary process remained open.
