An invited plenary lecture focused on the quality of teaching mathematics, namely by concrete examples of teaching the same subject matter in several different ways. Each one was described and its characteristics and potential explored.
For example, what is the role of students in the particular teaching approach? What is the teacher's role? Who does the mathematics? What help do the students get? etc. The teaching approaches were placed along a hypothetical axis going from 'transmission' towards 'construction' (or 'reinvention').
