The paper is focused on various strategies that are applied in the signs of Czech sign language used for marking the external parts of the human body. The parts of the body that are part of the signing space (the upper half of the body roughly up to the hips) are most often labeled by direct deixe.
However, there are certain rules: to mark smaller parts of the body (eye, nose) is usually used extended or bent index finger, for larger parts (abdomen, chest) flat hand with extended fingers. The hand, most often by repeated movement, contacts the bodypart.
Signs for body parts outside the signing space (lower body) most often use the mapping strategy - the hand represents the foot (heel, calf) or lexicalized signs articulated in neutral space (buttocks, knee). The paper will also describe other, less used strategies.
