Respiration as an Interdisciplinary Topic in Science Education - Results from Questionnaires

Abstract

The topic of respiratory chain belongs to the most demanding topics for education at secondary school. This topic is demanding for teachers (in relation to preparation for education) and also for pupils (in relation to understanding discussing curriculum).

This topic is interdisciplinary (chemistry/biology) and simultaneously connecting various fields of chemistry (biochemistry, organic chemistry, general chemistry) and biology (cell biology, human biology). For understanding chemical and biological aspects of respiratory chain it requires pupils to know each mentioned field.

This paper consists of questionnaire results of research focused on education of respiratory chain topic. Questionnaire was realized in 2017 and was designed for secondary school chemistry and biology teachers.
