Abstract
The syndrome of malabsorption can be caused by numerous diseases. In case of diffuse involvement of small bowel the macroscopic finding can be identical in completely different diseases.
In our paper we describe three cases of diffuse involvement of the small intestine. All three patients were investigated for diarrhea and weight loss.
Endoscopic finding was nearly identical. There was finding of edematous mucosa with lymphangiectasias.
Histological investigation proved the Whipple diseases in the first case, the diffuse form of ring cell carcinoma in the second case and diffuse form of MALT lymphoma in the third case. These three cases demonstrate that the endoscopic finding can be very similar in completely different diseases.
Close cooperation between the endoscopist and pathologist is necessary for final diagnose.
