Abstract

The chapter compares perceptions of populism among journalists from 13 European countries. Its aim is to tease out journalists' understanding of populism, focusing on five key areas: what journalists understand by the concept of populism, the identification of populist politicians, the issues most related to the rise of populism, its perceived consequences and whether the media are supportive, critical, or whether they behave in a populist manner.
