Abstract
Disorders of thyroid axis and namely disorders of thyroid gland itself belong to the most frequent endocrinopathies in children and adolescents. The article summarizes current knowledge of their pathogenesis, clinical manifestation, diagnostics and treatment.
The first part is focussed on congenital hypothyroidism and more rare, nevertheless serious congenital hyperthyroids. The part of the article discussing acquired thyreopaties is focused mostly on autoimmune thyroid diseases, including the latest global knowledge of therapy of chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis as well as Graves-Basedow thyreotoxicosis.
Finally, basic differential diagnostics of thyroidological laboratory findings is shown and iodine deficiency briefly mentioned.
