Abstract

The Czech Republic is an example of a country in transition in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). It has a population of approximately 10 million and, in 1996, its GDP per capita was US$3, 500 whilst its GDP per capita in purchasing power parity was 55 per cent as compared to the EU.
