Abstract

The article is devoted to the comparison of semantic development of Czech verb promrhati and its Russian analogue promorgat. Despite their seeming synonymy and common lexical origin, the words were developing in different ways.

The Russian prefixed variant originates from the end of the 19. century, the Czech one is first attested in Czech language with prefix already. The text first describes the state of investigations in the field of etymology, then works out the origin of the common base and its semantic similarities and differences in Russian and Czech.
