The article presents results of a longitudinal research study. The aim of the research was to follow the original study and determine in greater detail the causal effect of adaptation to incarceration on subsequent genesis and development of biological and psychosocial problems.
These are, in terms of andragogical intervention, counterproductive to the objectives of penitentiary practice (resocialization). Without effective support and care in the critical time period the maladaptation may result in unwanted personality changes, which tend to be a considerable obstacle to further resocialization objectives.
They may even deepen the tendency towards delinquency as a method of social self-fulfilment. The longitudinal research brings empirically verified findings that can be used in penitentiary andragogy, psychology and other helping professions.
