History of the Circus in Central Europe. Beginnings of the Modern Circus Culture in Prague and in Hamburg

Abstract

The paper focused on the comparison of comedian history in Prague and Hamburg. Based on the archive sources, the common as well as the different aspects of the circus culture were demonstrated with the examples of both cities.

For its expressive possibilities, the paper concentrated on the 19th century and the origins of the modernization process.
