This paper presents results of twelve case studies focused on professional satisfaction and risk of teacher burnout. Each case study of grammar school consisted of following data collection methods: teacher questionnaire, interview with principal, interviews with selected teachers, analysis of school documents and observation of school life.
The common thread linked to professional satisfaction was quality of relationships among teachers which was determined by attitudes and approach of the principal. We determined what value the principals assign to relationships among teachers.
The principals also use specific practices to support professional or/and personal relationships among teachers. Based on the case studies, we identified three types of principals whose visions differed with respect to the importance given to relationships among teachers.
The types of visions were called "hearters", "managers" and "survivors".
