Teacher-research represents a broad and live topic not only in the field of mathematics education. It covers different situations in which teachers are involved in research, either researching their own teaching or cooperating in a collaborative research with university researchers (under this term we understand academics from all types of institutions involved in educational research) and/or other teacher-researchers.

In any case, teachers' participation in research influences all participants' approaches to both school practice and theory of mathematics education. In the plenary talk, examples of successful research collaboration of teachers and university researchers were offered.

Ways in which academics and teacher-researchers might conduct research together served as the basis for the analysis of factors contributing to the success of the research events. The objective was to present on one hand the differences between the roles of teacher-researchers and university researchers and on the other hand the advantages of the cooperation of both.
