Saami people in Old Norse literature

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2019

Abstract

There is quite a lot of information to be found on Saami people in Old Norse texts, however they are not that explicit and obvious. When they are mentioned it is frequently by other words and names which are often connected to mythology and magic (e.g. trolls).

These show saami people as someone from the other world, and provide a concept of otherness which is reflected in different ways. (This presentation was based on my seminary paper written at the department of Scandinavian Studies, FF UK, in 2016).
