Abstract
Wind is the air movement to balance horizontal air pressure differences. Windstorms can be due to several different mechanisms when vertical air movement often plays a significant role.
With respect to the causal mechanism, windstorms differ in the regional distribution, in the usual size of the affected area as well as in their seasonal distribution.
