The first large settlements of summer villas of Prague residents was developed in the valley of lower Berounka river from the 1870s. During the inter-war period cottages were also built in this area.
Summer house settlements continued to be established until the beginning of the 20th century. A significant impulse for such recreational colonization of the valley of lower Berounka river was the abrupt development of camping and hiking movement after the end of the 1st World War.
