Abstract
The monograph is devoted to the topic of word problems in mathematics. It brings results of research which focused on the question which of the aspects participating on the structure of word problems contribute to their difficulty and to what extent.
The linguistic, mathematical and psychological variables present in word problems were investigated. Out of a wide range of attributes which characterise word problems as a specific way of communication, eight variables were selected for investigation.
