Abstract
The paper describes a yearlong internship of a PhD student at the University of York, United Kingdom. The author introduces the University and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad.
In the following section, the fundamental differences in the education systems of England and the Czech Republic are highlighted as they were essential for student's observation and a pilot study. In the final section, the reflection of observations in musical units and overall contributions of the internship are summarized.
