The pelvis is one of the key areas of the musculoskeletal system. It is like a ship from which the spine acts as a mast and is essential for postural function (spine statics).
Equally important, however, is its role in the locomotor (dynamic) function, where the pelvis combines and crosses impulses from both lower limbs. For a good movement function in the pelvic area, it is essential that the muscles are in optimal interplay to ensure not only stabilization of the entire segment for posture and locomotion, but also optimal connection with other structures and functions of the body (respiratory, urogenital and digestive system functions) etc.).
In physical education systems, the pelvic area - its initial position in exercising other parts of the body and exercises directly aimed at the pelvic muscles - is given special attention. The group lesson "The Pelvic Clock" of the Feldenkrais method (FM) is an inspiring exercise for the natural organization of the spine and pelvis and thus of the whole body.
In introducing this lesson in the present article, we started from the original version described by M. Feldenkrais, the creator of FM, in his book "The Feldenkrais Method - Movement to Self-Awareness", some other versions of the lesson available in Internet materials and personal experience.
