Senior's physical activities like a means of slowing down ageing

Publication

Abstract

The higher age is characterized by a cumulative amount of health complications so gradual deterioration of neuromuscular functions, which leads to mobility disorders and a decrease in self-sufficiency. A significant proportion of the quality of ageing on reducing the self-sufficiency of the elderly has the loss of skeletal muscle mass, conditional on biological age - the so-called involutional sarcopenia.

Age-related loss of muscle mass is a slow but unstopably progressive process with undesirable consequences for the quality of senior's life. Movement intervention proportionate to the current state of the seniors is one of the means that can significantly affect the quality of ageing.

Benefits can be classified as a significant reduction in muscle loss, slowing down neuromuscular function deficits, communication opportunities, improving mobility and improving quality of life. Following the application of a walking-based motion intervention in the duration of 5 months with an average energy intensity of 900 kcal/week, we achieved in the group of 61 healthy senior women of the mean age of 69,3 +- 5.0 years a significant increase in both fat-free mass (5.8 +- 1.3%), as well as cardiovascular fitness (12.4 +- 2.1%) and motor performance (13.2 +- 2.8%).

If we evaluate the current state of senior's development - biological age, ou
