Abstract

Figural gargoyles of the Gothic st Vitus cathedral were among the largest sculptural works firmly connected with the building. They are described in the context of solving the problem of leading the rainwater off the construction.

The building accounts of 1372-78 enable to identify stonecutters, who produced them in particular years and consider their placement within the construction.
