The paper presents partial results of an early reading research. Early readers are children who have learned to read with comprehension before entering any formal system of literacy teaching.
It reports on the procedure of searching of respondents and on the subsequent part of this research. Pupils were observed in their first grade during the whole school year.
Both their motivation to read and the development of their reading skills were monitored. The report contains detailed description of the procedure for determining reading skills of children at the end of the first grade by the diagnostic reading test and the draft of the procedure for the further research.
